Homemade Fuse - Potassium Nitrate and Sugar

This is a really simple homemade fuse that you can make with stuff you probably have right now. For those of you who may have made homemade fuel for your rockets the principle is exactly the same. However, this mixture only calls for about 2/3 of the sugar.

Fuse components

Tissue Paper
20g potassium nitrate
8g sugar

Mix the potassium nitrate and sugar together in a plastic container. For best results, use a cake sifter to mix the two ingredients.

Procedure

Take a small piece of tissue about the width of a rolling paper and twice as long then fold it in half, again like a rolling paper.

Place about 1 teaspoon of your mixture into the fold of your tissue and spread it out as evenly as possible. Roll or fold the paper up over until you have a small cylinder shaped tissue.

You want it to look like a very small cigarette.

Now you want to twist up your tissue tightly. Not too tightly though, you still want your homemade fuse to be able to burn.

Done! Nice and simple fuse that you can make at home.

It should be said that this fuse is not as good as any store bought fuse, but it is an excellent back-up fuse if you run out. Also for us Canadians, we cannot just go buy fuse from the store. It is very regulated.

Well, that is it for todays tutorial on how to make homemade fuse.

Thank you very much for your visit and I hope to see you again!
